Bricks Mortar Broom & Shield Inc (BMB&S) was established in 2019. It uses an African-centered philosophy to solve American problems in school, at work, and in the community. BMB&S seeks to increase respect among Black people for each other by making us more aware of the conditioned prejudices we have towards ourselves, with the intention of producing a healed Black community.
We realized that an effort has a significantly greater and more sustainable impact when undertaken in collaboration with the community. Not as a handout, not as a charity – but in solidarity.
Our Vision – To produce a healed Black community
Our Mission – To provide opportunities for Self, Family & Community Empowerment, through college tours,
media campaigns, workshops, and enrichment activities.
Our Background– 3 concepts: Social Determinants of Health, Adverse Childhood Experiences, and Black people’s collective history in America.
Guiding Values Of Our Programs
- An authentic definition of Education advanced by the Douglass Institute / Hofi Kwenu Academy & Council of Independent Black Institutions
- The role of each of the 5 educating institutions, and the power therein
- The Nguzo Saba, or 7 pillars (principles) of Blackness*
- The contributions and recommendations of countless Black scholars who’ve studied the effects of Racism, White Supremacy, and Internalized Racism on Black people.
BMB&S uses workshops, training, and media to re-ignite Black people’s desire to think critically and collaboratively, in our best interests, and away from disempowering narratives and the negative impact of dangerous self-images of us produced by us and others.
BMB&S offers programs and services that:
- Strengthen family relationships
- Promote solidarity
- Promote problem-solving
- Demonstrate creative ways to solve our most serious problems
